Who is Scott Cawthon?

American former video game developer and author Scott Braden Cawthon was born in Bell County, Texas USA, on 4 June 1978, making Gemini his zodiac sign. He’s probably only known for being the creator of the video game series “Five Nights at Freddy’s” (FNaF), which has since its launch on 8 August 2014 expanded to books and TV, as there is today a film adaption in the making.

Education and early life

Scott was raised in Bell County, but as he respects his family’s privacy, no details have been shared about his parents and the siblings whom he might have; most people believe Scott to be an only child, but he’s still to comment on this.

He was raised in a Christian household and went to church every week; Scott studied at a local high school and was into a number of activities during his four years there, as he enjoyed playing chess, appearing in school plays and taking creative writing lessons.

He matriculated in 1996 and then enrolled at Art Institute of Houston in Texas, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in 2000.

Most of the people familiar with his work praised his game “The Desolate Hope”, however, it was also criticized for being an allusion to Scott’s opposition to abortion, as the player’s mission is to rescue a fetus which is about to be experimented on.

Scott joined the Christian video game group Hope Animation around the same time.

Even though his games received mostly positive reviews, Scott wasn’t earning money from them and thus had part-time jobs at Dollar General and Target. His 2013 game “Chipper & Sons Lumber Co.” was criticized by his fans and reviewers for being creepy, while its lead character was called a ‘scary animatronic animal’.

Following the failure of “Chipper & Sons Lumber Co.”, Scott fell into depression and had a crisis of faith, which led him to search for different jobs and leave video game designing behind; he eventually felt better and made the scary game “Five Nights at Freddy’s”.

The Steam’s Greenlight accepted the game in August 2014, it received mostly positive reviews, and numerous ‘Let’s Play’ YouTubers reviewed the game on their channels. The fans asked for a sequel, so Scott released “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2”, “Five Nights at Freddy’s 3” and “Five Nights at Freddy’s 4”; based on these games, Scott also released “FNaF World” on 21 January 2016, but it was taken down from Steam only four days later because of various glitches. He released “Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location” on 7 October 2016, and “Ultimate Custom Night” on 28 June 2018.

Scott released the Android and iOS video game “Five Nights at Freddy’s: Special Delivery” on 25 November 2019.

He announced on 16 June 2021 that he wanted to retire and spend more time with his children, but that he would find someone who could continue the franchise “Five Nights at Freddy’s”.

Scott’s written, produced and directed a number of movies, making his debut with the 2002 short film franchise “Birdvillage”, which comprised five movies, including “Beak’s Vacation”, “Beak’s Adventure” and “Beak’s Snowball Fight”.

He worked on “A Mushsnail Tale” and “Return to Mushsnail: The Legend of the Snowmill” in 2003, while some of his following movies were the 2004 “Noah’s Ark: Story of the Biblical Flood”, the 2005 “The Pilgrim’s Progress” and the 2006 “A Christmas Journey: About the Blessings God Gives”.

He also produced three animated series in 2010: “The Jesus Kids’ Club”, “Rock ‘N Learn” and Bible Plays”.

It’s known that he and his wife are today living in Salado, Texas together with their three children; his wife’s name remains undisclosed, as well as her profession, but most of Scott’s fans believe that she’s a high school teacher.

Scott revealed on Twitter on 10 June 2021 that he had begun receiving threats on the internet, and that his pregnant wife was afraid because of this; the threats started after it was revealed that Scott had donated money to former US President Donald Trump.
